TASK 1
Task 1: Understanding 'single camera production'
a) Define 'single camera production':
| Single camera production is simply a piece of media either a music video or film shot with a single camera |
b) Identify the advantages and disadvantages of single camera production (refer to examples where you can):
Advantages
Cheaper if more cameras were used, each camera man man could cost money and lighting and sound units
More control and lighting for each shot enhances the detail and excitement
you are not limited in how much space you need to set up your shot
one crew member means less money being spent
less time consuming (multi)
single camera in terms of money
small budget we can get creative with it |
Disadvantages
It takes longer to be able to set up.
Editing time you will spend a lot of time trying to edit because all of the shots that have been taken
less realistic reactions as one actor gets filmed at a time the reactions aren't as natural
you only need many people to operate many cameras multi camera needs more people you need more time (single) continuity edit process (single) multi camera in terms of money it takes longer |
Multi- camera is different to single camera productions because it is typically for event filming, live events, some TV shows and interviews. We usually use several camera and the editing is much faster. The lighting is above the studio floor and controlled remotely
There are usually two or more cameras on set sometimes even in different rooms. Multi-camera are cheaper and faster
Whereas simple camera productions are much more expensive and laborious to produce as you only need one camera for it. it takes longer easier with a small budget and we can get creative with it

The importance of Camera Angles
The director has the final saying of what type of camera angles and camera shots that are being used
the director wants the audience to see where the scene is now set or taking place, which shot would be better
how much of the scene is (for framing)
2 elements
shot size: how far away the person or object the director wants us to focus on
examples:
extreme long shot, long shot, close up, extreme close up, Medium long shot, medium long shot and medium close up
camera angle
change of the shot helps us to understand what is going on as it shows who is in control who breaks where and who doesn't

the tilt (the camera pivots vertically up and down or vice versa
the boom or crane (mounting the camera in a boom or crane creates a powerful dramatic effect by revealing the scale of the action)
steadicam (mechanical system that produces very steady, jitter free, images from hand-held camerawork)
lens movement
zoom in
zoom out
zoom lenses have variable distance captures
framing styles
tight framing
image where there is a lack of space around the subject
it shows that the Ain character is contradicted
loose framing
have a sense of open space but isolation would be included
having many many changes will create a dramatic effect on freedom
deep focus framing
objects or characters
you still have a close up so it shows the character's emotion meaning your getting a sense of what is happening
functions of moving camera shots
to reveal dramatic information
to narrow and focus attention on specific objects or characters
Trucking
