In this essay I will be speaking about the single camera production the uses of it the benefits, the limitations of single camera production. I will be talking about single camera techniques as well and the examples for it, I will also be making comparisons with multi camera and single camera production.

Single camera production is a piece of media for example a film or a tv show or music video that is then shot with a single camera. There are usually films that don't cost a lot of money and then involves a lot of editing during scenes with many different characters having different conversations. Also with single camera production it is a way of producing where on camera operates at a time and the shots are done in the most order, these productions are not live meaning they will include lots of editing to be done and many different takes will have to take place as well.

The setup for single camera production is that is a method of filmmaking and video production it is usually done on the set and each shot is done to Mae up many different scenes indidvually as it just uses one camera each of the shots and camera angles are shot by using a single camera  which is then moved and rested to get every single shot and angle. Single camera production is mostly used for dramas, made for tv music videos and commercial advertisements. Soap operas, talk shows, game shows most reality television series, and sitcoms frequently use the  multi camera setup.

Single camera producton is used because it helps to save time for the producer and the crew doesnt need to visit the same location that has just been filmed. Often in single camera productions only one camera is used a variety of camera shot and camera angles are all used.

Multi- camera is different to single camera productions because it is typically for event filming, live events, some TV shows an interviews. We usually use several camera and the editing is much faster. The lighting is above the studio floor and controlled remotely

There are usually two or more cameras on set sometimes even in different rooms. Multi-camera are cheaper and faster.
Whereas simple camera productions are much more expensive and laborious to produce as you only need one camera for it. it takes longer easier with a small budget and we can get creative with it

These comes with lots of benefits and disadvantages for single camera production. One benefit of single camera production is that it is cheaper as you are only using on camera to be able to film whatever shot you are taking as if more cameras were used it would cost more money for the camera men, lighting and sound units. Another benefit for single camera production is that you have more aesthetic control meaning the lighting and sound for each shot that has been taken which then shows the detail of your production more and it enhances detail and excitement. The third benefit is that you are not limited in how much space you are able to get to then set up your shot. This is then good because in multi camera production which is different to single camera production as for that prodcution you are limited so it isn't good at all.  Another advantage of single camera prodcution is that as it is only single camera that you are filming with this will then mean you get a small budget so you can be very creative in what you create.

However, there are some limitations of using a single camera prodcution. For example, one limitation will be that it takes longer to then set up as there are more camera men, this is a advantage as then it takes time off to be filming. Another limiation is that as it is only one camera the reactions aren't as usual as one actor could be doing a reacton but it wouldnt look natural. This is bad as then it won't look very professional towards the audience. An additional limation is the editing time, this is because as you have taken so many shots with just one camera you will be trying to spend a lot of time to edit because all of these shots have been taken. One of the most important diadvantages of using single camera prodcuction to help you shoot something is that you only get one angle at a time, this then means you have to attempt to get everything you then want to happen in the right setting at the right time this is very bad as it means you have to get everything perfect for the first time u film the shot. Also another very important disadvantage for single camera production is the director as it is only single camera production the director gets all the control over what happens with multi camera you will be able to get any type of footage but with single camera production you are stuck with the footage that you get.

When it comes to Single camera production there are different types for example adverts (Malteaser), TV shows (Sillicon Valley, Modern Family and The Last Man on Earth) docummentaries (Straight from the Underground, Mr Morris) and films (Run Fatboy Run, The Beach, Shutter Island and The Tourist). These are the different types of single camera production. For platforms showing single camera production this would be social media, adverts, online, narrative based music videos and docummentaries and the platforms for screening single camera prodcuction are Netflix, instagram there are some film festivals common for short films produced using single camera production cinema single/films. For exmaple IT, SAW. For when it comes to  different distribution platforms for example TV, film festivals and interactive.

Multi camera production is when you use multiple cameras to use to shoot a film or whatever is being filmed. Multi camera production is typically for event filming, live events, tv show and interviews. As more than one camera is used thed diting then becomes much easier as you used several cameras to film this is then a benefit for multi camera production. Multi camera production is used to help make the directors job much easier as it can be used to then really capture the emotions and reactions of the characters this happens because it it always switching camera. There are six main genres of tv programming that use multi camera production these are: sports, concerts, public events, game shows, chat shows and magazine shows.

Multi camera prodution can be better then single camer prodcution because of the advnatages it has. An advantage of multi camera production is that there is a lot of footage to be able to choose from this is very good as the perosn editing will have lots of shots to then work with which is good as there are no exuses for the film not to be good and this also means that this type of production is then less time consuming for everyone. Also as all of the shots are taken at once so this will mean that nothing can be changed or out of place, this then helps the process to be faster. Another advantage is that it is good to be able to replay everything that has been filmed in slow motion as it can show if it is worth being in the production or not.

In terms of the disadvantages for multi camera production is that when something is filmed in a certain location you would then need to carry a lot of equipment and this will then take a longer time to set up for when filming as it can waste time when you should be filming. This is bad because someone could forget the equipment. Another disadvantage for multi camera production would be that it costs a lot of moneyy as it is more than one camera.

Single Camera Techniques  is used because it is a mode of production that will help to operates at a time and the all of the shots are done. One advantage of single camera technique is that  the cost of filming the media product would be then cheaper because some of the cameras are not needed so the budget would then be cheaper. Also another advantage of single camera technique is that there is only one camera, the director would them have more control of what gets filmed and what happens in the scenes. An additional advantage is that the quality of the scenes would be the same, as one camera is then be using so the quality could sound very well, when you also have once camera the mobility of the crew for the camera and resources is easier and you are only filming with one camera so you don't have to carry all the equipment around.

An example of the use of single camera technique is this tv show that is shown above which is called Barbershop.  This show was an American Sitcom which came into the Tv scene in 2005 it came from the idea from the films The Barbershop and The Barbershop 2. The  TV show only involved one camera which then meant the producers can get creative with the show. As the whole tv show only uses on camera to then be filmed it is only used with one camera because the episodes are not that long as the duration for this show is only 30 minutes and only one camera is needed as it is on of them television shows that is like a documentary because it shows lots of humour in the show to show a more deep variety of issues that is related to the whole African community.   This is effective for different single camera production because it then gets to show the best of single camera production. For example in single camera production you et more aesthetic control and lighting meaning for each shot that is taken so than it shows detail of the single camera production. This can then be effective for the TV series Barbershop as it will then show more detail for the show as this is than effective because the audience will then know what is going on in the Tv series.

Another example of a tv show that uses single camera production

This tv show is called everybody hates Chris and it is about a boy called Chris and his adventures in the 1980s as he is with all of his family members throughout all of this. It speaks about the struggles that many black familes dealt with around the time as the children were very troubled. The show is very funny tho nevertheless and unfortunately it had got cancelled and never came back on tv again.

This is an example of one of the camera shots that have been used in the show this camera shot is called a medium close up shot as it has zoomed in on chris but not his whole actual face to capture emotions just himself to show how he is feeling. I remember that this wasn't a good thing for him as after this something bad happened to him in show coz of the facial reaction that is being given. In genral a medium close up shot would mean that it focuses on the character while showing some type of environment that the character is in. In this case it is showing the character chris and the type of environment that he is in.

Throughout many episodes of Everybody Hates Chris it uses steadicam as it is basically tracking Chris's life in all of the episodes as he is the main character because a steadicam allows the camera to be able to track the action or what ever is going on with no shakes or wobbles. The use of a steadicam is very effective in this tv show as it shows how the audience would feel like an stranger as they are all reading into Chris's life and his experiences around that time. Another camera shot that is in Everybody Hates Chris is called a Handheld shot and this camera shot is one where a camera women or camera man holds the camera and then moves through space whilst it is filming. So the handheld shots that are in Everybody hates Chris will be able to attempt to allow the viewer to then have a good experience on what they are viewing as this is then good as it shows a single camera technique.

This is one of the steadicam shots inside of Everybody Hates Chris

The high angle shown here is to show one of the characters (drew from Everybody Hates Chris) to look vulnerable or powerless when the camera is on them as this usually happens to a character after something has happened to then help set the mood for the audience. Usually a high angle is when the camera looks down on something for example a person or an object and then the point of focus that is been shown can then get swallowed up for the character
